ACT LIKE to act in a certain manner My brother was acting like a wild animal last night. 
Mary acted like she likes me, but I know she was only pretending.
ACT UP to behave badly The children in class acted up when the teacher left the room.
ACT UP to work improperly My computer has been acting up lately. It needs to be repaired.
ADD ON to increase something Our house was too small, so we added on another bedroom.
ADD UP to find the amount How much is the tax? I don't know, I'll have to add it up.
ADD UP TO to find the total The clothes add up to $550.00! That's a lot of money!
ASK OUT to invite someone on a date That handsome boy asked me out! We're going to a movie.
